Salvamento Marítimo brought 557 people from three boats to El Hierro
Six rescue operations were carried out in the waters of the Canary Islands within 24 hours. 557 people from three boats landed on El Hierro. 262 people were rescued from four boats on Lanzarote.

According to sources, six rescue operations were carried out in the waters of the Canary Islands within 24 hours. 557 people from three boats landed on El Hierro. 262 people were rescued from four boats on Lanzarote.
The last operation took place yesterday afternoon (Thursday). The crew of a wooden boat (cayuco) contacted the 112 Canarias centre to provide their location. The alarm was reported to Salvamento Marítimo around 14:40. This prompted the dispatch of helicopter Helimer 204. The helicopter located the boat more than 41 km south-west of El Hierro. The ship Salvamar Navia then transported more than 100 people on board to the port of La Restinga. A medical team was waiting there.
This operation increased the total number of people involved in rescue actions to more than 529. Previously, between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, 429 people were rescued on five boats in the waters around El Hierro and Lanzarote. One boat with 167 people was transported to La Restinga. 185 people from three other boats (with 97, 42 and 46 people) were transported to the port in Arrecife. They arrived just after 5:30 am on Thursday.
